A rare piece of good news: Apple finally got the llama emoji. There are also raccoon, bagel, frisbee and mosquito emojis.
The company said it may add 70 new emojis for iPhone and iPad users later this month. Starting Tuesday, beta testers and developers who update to iOS 12.1 will see the new emoji.
In addition to new cute (and blood-sucking) animals, iOS 12.1 users can now send bagels, salt, luggage, compasses, hiking boots, softballs, Frisbees, and Asian-style red gift envelopes to friends and family.
For World Emoji Day in July, Apple previewed new options for bald and red-haired emojis, as well as lobster, cupcake, and superhero. These emojis are also rolling out to iOS 12.1.
The Unicode Consortium, the nonprofit organization that manages the world’s emoji standards, released its latest list in February. Every company that uses emojis in their products adds their own touch to these little cartoons and chooses which ones to include from a master list.
These interpretations can spark controversy, such as Google’s misplaced foam on its beer emoji and its tragic mix of ingredients on its burger emoji. Both have been corrected.
